Basic Mechanical Skills
Course Syllabus
The delivery will be a combination of classroom work for underpinning knowledge and hands on practical exercises in line with the requirements.
- Health and Safety relating to the use of hand tools in maintenance
- Understanding of how to use basic mechanical tools. i.e. open ended and ring spanners, sockets, screwdrivers, Allen keys etc
- Use and care of micrometers and verniers, reading micrometer and vernier scales
- Reading and understanding basic mechanical engineering drawings
- The importance of lubrication and the different types of lubricant including oils and greases
- The setting up of a basic lubricant schedule
- The completion of shut down procedures as above
- Basic mechanical maintenance skills including methodology and basic fault finding
- Introduction to basic pneumatics and hydraulics
- Practical training in the stripping down and rebuilding of basic pneumatic and hydraulics equipment
- The basic machine principles
- Course audit and review

Course Content
Aim:
To give delegates basic knowledge and skills to carry out basic Mechanical tasks in the workplace.

There are no pre-requisites.
Duration:
The course is of 5 days duration.
